awamo has been elected as a winner of the European Youth Award 2015!

The European Youth Award (EYA) is a pan-European contest to motivate young people, social entrepreneurs and start-ups to produce digital projects with impact on society. It demonstrates their potential to create innovative solutions with Internet and Mobile technology addressing the goals defined by the Council of Europe and Europe 2020. The EYA is under patronage of the Council of Europe, UNESCO and UNIDO, the UN’s Industrial Development Organization.

The EYA Grand Jury on awamo:

“Awamo stands out as a start-up with great potential in the Money Matters category by scoring highly in at least five of the EYA jury criteria: content, innovation, initiative, impact and social value. […] The “biometric, mobile and easy to use microfinance management solution ‘out of the box’” that they offer stands out through its creativity and novelty, therefore scoring highly on the innovation criterion. […] Finally, Awamo stands out through its great social value. […] It is a superb example of Europeans reaching out to improve the lives of non-Europeans by exporting technology and taking the lead in its on the ground implementation.”

We are very proud and feel honored that the EYA Grand Jury has awarded awamo with this prize, especially as we feel even more convinced and supported in our vision to create more opportunity in emerging markets by making microcredit available to anyone at lower interesat rates than today.

We are happily looking forward to meeting the other EYA winners in Graz in November 2015!
